Job Summary
The Accountant (or Senior Accountant) is a core member of our finance and accounting team in Virginia, responsible for overseeing billing and revenue cycle processes to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement from Medicaid MCOs and other payers. This role also supports accounts payable operations and collaborates with clinical and operations teams to optimize financial performance. Healthcare experience is a plus but not required; we'll train the right candidate on payer-specific workflows.
Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Financial Operations
Support accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments
Oversee payroll processing and resolve discrepancies in compliance with applicable laws
Support bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes
Billing & Revenue Cycle
Oversee medical billing processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with healthcare and MCO requirements
Reconcile caregiver payments against authorized service days
Record submitted claims and issue invoices via HHA Exchange
Resolve billing discrepancies in collaboration with clinical and operations teams
Ensure transaction coding meets accounting requirements and is MCO-compliant
Track payer requirements and regulatory changes affecting reimbursement
Compliance & Controls
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and healthcare-specific financial regulations
Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure integrity of financial data
Prepare schedules and documentation for audits; maintain audit readiness
Collaboration, Improvement & Systems
Work closely with clinical, operations, and administrative staff to ensure financial processes support organizational goals
Identify opportunities for process improvements; implement best practices to enhance efficiency
Utilize accounting software (NetSuite, HHA Exchange) to streamline processes and improve accuracy

Job requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred
3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the healthcare industry
Background with a Big Four accounting firm (Deloitte, PwC, EY, or KPMG) is a plus, bringing strong technical accounting expertise and best-in-class audit and compliance practices
Strong understanding of GAAP and healthcare-specific financial regulations preferred
Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems (i.e. NetSuite)
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
